10 Amazon Must Haves for the Best Experience on Long Flights

Long flights. Just the phrase can evoke a mix of excitement for the destination and dread for the journey. And even if you are lucky and fly Business or even First Class, a long flight always comes with stress to body and mind. But what if those hours in the air could be transformed from a test of endurance into a comfortable and even enjoyable experience? The secret lies in preparation. With the right gear, you can turn your seat in Economy into a personal oasis of comfort and entertainment and your flight in general into a far more enjoyable experience. And where better to find these must have travel essentials than on Amazon?

This guide dives into my recommendations of the top Amazon products that will revolutionize your long-haul flights. Please make sure to always do your own research before a flight to ensure all the items you carry/bring are accepted by the specific airline(s) and countries.

Here are my top 10 Amazon must-haves for long flights:

1. Comfy hoodie

A hoodie is such a surprisingly valuable asset on a long flight and therefore starts off my list of Amazon must haves. It’s soft and cozy, you can layer it easily and it protects you from the cold on the airplane. Additionally, the hood can serve as personal space bubble, provides a little more privacy and it might help you fall asleep. Personally, I prefer a hoodie with zipper as it’s the most versatile option. And you can’t go wrong with a Nike hoodie. They offer good quality for a reasonable price, are pretty neutral and often come in different colors. Here are two very good options:

Additional comment: As general advice, choose loose-fitting, comfortable clothing and dress in layers to adapt to changing cabin temperatures and if possible also to the weather at your destination.

2. Noise-cancelling headphones

Airplane noise can be incredibly disruptive. Whether it’s the constant hum of the engines, chatty passengers, or crying babies, noise reduction is crucial for relaxation and sleep. A worthwhile investment not only for frequent travelers but anyone using headphones in their daily life. These headphones use technology to actively cancel out surrounding noise, creating a peaceful environment for listening to music, podcasts, or simply enjoying the silence.

My absolute favorites are these!

I basically use them (almost) every day. They feel and work great.

I have also just invested in these over-ear headphones, but will only test them in a few weeks. They look and feel very high-quality and many people love them for traveling. But they also are on the heavier and more expensive side.

If you want an alternative, you can try these. I have heard great things about them. Plus, they are cheaper than the ones from Apple.

Additional comment: A simple and more affordable alternative for blocking out noise would be earplugs.

3. Eye mask

Airplane cabin lights and the glare from fellow passengers’ screens can make it difficult to sleep. A good eye mask is your solution. Prioritize comfort and complete light blockage. Silk masks are a luxurious option that’s gentle on the skin and helps prevent wrinkles. You should also look for a version that does not put pressure on your eyes.

I got myself this one and so far really like it.

Additional comment: Don’t rely on those eye masks you get on the plane. Even the ones in Business Class are below average. Simply get one on Amazon and you’ll be happy.

4. Travel pillow

Forget those flimsy airplane pillows that offer minimal support. A quality travel pillow is a game-changer for preventing neck pain and promoting restful sleep. It’s also far nicer to have your own pillow. Plus, you could even use it in your accommodation.

I have been using this one for a while. The quality is great and I very much like its versatility. However, it can get a little bulky when carrying it. And it might not give as much support as other variants. I still like it though.

If you prefer more support, go for an option with memory foam – like this one. It has an adjustable strap to stay in place.

Then, there are also ergonomic pillows like the one from Trtl. These offer unique support structures that hold your head in a natural position, mimicking the support of a reclined bed.

Finally, you can get inflatable options which I don’t really like and therefore won’t recommend here.

Additional comment: If you do not have enough space in your hand luggage to carry your pillow, you can also attach it to the outside of your bag/backpack. Or you simply “wear” it.

5. Travel blanket

Similar to pillows, airplane blankets are often thin and not always the cleanest. I think their quality is even worse, as lately pillows on flight have become a little better. However, bringing your own travel blanket ensures you have a cozy and hygienic layer of warmth. Look for lightweight, packable blankets made of fleece, merino, or cashmere. Some even double as pillows for added convenience.

I think, Cocoon is one of the best and most reliable producers for these blankets. I especially like this one, even though it’s expensive. But I promise this will be a long lasting and very versatile companion on your trips (not only for flights).

6. Crossbody bag or pouch

While I like a nice slim pouch to store your essentials separately on a flight, I have not found the perfect one. They are either too bulky or too slim.

Therefore, I always carry a small crossbody bag with all items I want to keep close to me on the entire flight (passport, important documents) as well as items I will definitely need (eye mask, charger, power bank and Airpods). If space allows, you can store it in your hand luggage until you have boarded or simply take it as personal item separately. This one from Bellroy is amazing but also expensive. As long as you use it more often, I think you can justify investing in it.

Additional comment: In my opinion, a crossbody bag is also an essential item for city trips. Therefore, this can definitely serve more purposes.

7. Power bank

Don’t let your devices die mid-flight and don’t rely on the power outlets in an airplane. For a long flight, you should always carry a power bank (and for your trips anyways). A portable charger ensures you can stay connected, entertained, or productive throughout your entire journey.

You have endless options available on Amazon, but my absolute favorite for flights is this one. It comes with 87W split power and 20k mAh which – to my knowledge – is accepted by all airlines. But please check before your departure. There are strict limitations to carrying power banks on flights.

What I also like about this power bank from Anker is that it comes with a built-in USB-C cable. It’s not the cheapest one on the market but definitely really great and worth it, from my point of view.

8. Tablet or laptop stand

An often overlooked game changer for long flights.

If you plan to watch movies or work on a tablet or use an eReader, a portable stand can significantly improve your viewing experience and prevent neck strain.

This one works with both as well as your phone, which is pretty nice. Plus it’s simple and affordable.

9. Facial mist

If I could only take one hygiene or wellness item with me on a long flight, it would be this.

You can and should combat the dry cabin air with a hydrating facial mist to keep your skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. It can also help you feel “cleaner” while on a plane.

I can recommend this one which also is the right travel size (but again, please do your own research before your flight, as regulations/restrictions can change)

10. Hand sanitizer and wipes

Well, maybe this one IS more important to me than the facial mist… It honestly depends, so let’s say, it’s equally important. To maintain good hygiene during your travels with hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes is crucial. And you will definitely need it more often than on your flight.

These wipes are amazing and you should always carry them in your bag.

With regards to sanitizer lotion or gel, I prefer this one (same brand).

Final Thoughts

I hope you find this guide about my Amazon must-haves for long flights helpful. By investing in these essential items, I’m sure you will transform your long flights from a source of stress into a comfortable and even enjoyable part of your travel experience. So, pack your bags, prepare your in-flight essentials, and get ready to conquer the clouds!

And if you prefer or look for other products, the most important factor always is to make the right choices (on Amazon):

  • Read Reviews: Before purchasing any products, take the time to read reviews (from other travelers) to get an idea of their quality and performance. Focus on those aspects, that are most relevant to you.
  • Prioritize Your Needs: Consider your specific needs and preferences. What are your biggest concerns about long flights? What will make you most comfortable? What can you afford?
  • Travel-Friendly Design That Potentially Can Also Be Used Every Day: Look for products that are lightweight, compact, and easy to pack in your carry-on luggage. And you should like them enough to use them again and again – ideally, not only when traveling.

If you want to travel even more relaxed and stress-free, please check out this guide!
